Panasonic Finally announced on the 2nd Jun 2017, the new compact and lightweight cinema camera, the AU-EVA1, which contains a newly designed large 5.7K Super 35mm-sized sensor for capturing true cinematic images. By starting at a higher native resolution, the 5.7K sensor offer you a amazing higher resolving image when down sampled to 4K, UHD, 2K, and even 720p. The increased colour information results in a finer, more accurate finished image.
The EVA1 come with a dual native ISO like the its VariCam 35, VariCam LT and VariCam Pure. Utilizing a process that allows the sensor to be read in a fundamentally different way, dual native ISO extracts more information from the sensor without degrading the image. This results in a camera that can switch from a standard sensitivity to a high sensitivity without an increase in noise, or other artifacts. Dual native ISO is allowing cinematographers to use less light on set, saving time and money, as well as allowing for a great variety of artistic choices.
The ability to capture accurate colours and rich skin tones is a must for any filmmaker. Like the VariCam lineup of cinema cameras, the EVA1 contains V-Log/V-Gamut capture to deliver high dynamic range and broad colours. V-Log has log curve characteristics that are somewhat reminiscent of negative film and V-Gamut delivers a colour space even larger than film. The EVA1 will also import the celebrated colourimetry of the VariCam line.

• Focus Guide to assist manual focusing
The EOS C300 Mark II delivers high image quality and a wide dynamic range in a compact and ergonomically designed body that has improved operability, ruggedness and options for expansion. Its in-built advance focusing functions that assist professionals for manual focusing stems from the next evolutionary step in DAF engineering
Newly developed 4K (DCI/QFHD) 8.85-megapixel sensor and Wider Dynamic Range of 15 Stops
Canon has developed a new sensor that supports 4K (DCI) recording with a maximum 4096 x 2160 resolution, producing footages with high image quality. Also, 2K/HD recording (Over Sampling HD processing) that utilizes the information yielded from the 4K sensor to the full more than satisfactorily supports multi-purpose production needs. When users have selected the Canon Log 2 gamma, the dynamic range changes from 200% to 1600% when ISO 100 to ISO 800 is selected, and a wide dynamic range of 1600% is achieved for ISO800 at the base sensitivity and higher. This enables the details of the highlights and shadows to be adjusted, and it extends the scope of color grading.
Engineering advancement in focus functions
AF speed tuning has now been implemented. The focusing area has been expanded to approximately 80% (vertically) x 80% (horizontally) of the image display on the screen. The focusing area can also be moved using the 4-direction key for AF shooting using the framework of the user’s choice. This truly innovative UI applies the phase difference AF technology of Dual Pixel CMOS AF to deliver information that includes even the pre-focus and post-focus states of the focusing position, greatly improves user friendliness and efficiency in operation. This removes some of the obstacles to focusing in 4K shooting which demands extreme focusing accuracy.
Pursuing further excellence in operability, expandability and ruggedness
The new handle bracket has multiple threaded holes that are the same size as those on the accessories provided so that many different accessories can be mounted. This increases the degree of freedom in shooting as well as enhances user friendliness and rigging possibilities. A ND filter expansion mode of 8 and 10 stops, on top of the current 2, 4 and 6 stops is also supported. This enables the aperture to be opened even in bright outdoor environments to capture shots with a shallow depth of field. (Read more..)
A ground-breaking professional cine camera, EOS C300 PL fuses Canon’s proven video technology and lens heritage with EOS creativity. Interchangeable lenses give unprecedented freedom to tell every story.
Super 35mm-equivalent 16:9 large CMOS sensor
Modeled on the Super 35mm picture film standard, Canon’s CMOS sensor has an active image size of 24.6 x 13.8mm. The image sensor utilizes an innovative readout technique that delivers full bandwidth individual RGB video components without the need for any debayering algorithms.
Modular design for mobility and expandability
Taking into account of various shooting scenarios, the EOS C300 (PL) can accommodate situations where every last inch of maneuverability counts. With day-long shooting comfort and usability in mind, different components can be added or removed as needed. It’s also compatible with industry standard third-party accessories, so it can be easily rigged for studio, Steadicam, jib or just about any other configuration imaginable.
Highly compatible with movie production workflow
Seamless integration with NLEs is just the beginning of effective post-processing. Clean image quality; low S / N ratio; Canon Log Gamma for expanded dynamic range and file formats that hold up when multiple effects and colour corrections are applied. Robust enough for the big screen, but convenient enough for on-set review and tweaking. (Read more..)
